Hot tubs are a great way to add luxury and beauty to the yard. They extend the living space to the patio or lawn, but a hot tub is more than just a pretty pool, it also provides excellent health benefits for you, your friends and family.

Here are three ways to get the most out of your hot tub experience.

Rinse Off for Longer – Lasting Water Quality – Cleaning a hot tub is pretty easy, and doesn’t have to be done too often, but you can be sure the water will stay clean longer by showering before using the hot tub. Even if you haven’t’ been rolling around in the dirt, your body has oil and sweat from the day on the skin that will transfer to the water. Anyone in the family that uses oils, lotions or perfumes will also transfer those surface liquids to the water, so a shower first rule is a great idea for everyone in the home.

It isn’t always easy to enforce a shower first rule, especially when there is a party with extended family and friends involved. Just be sure to clean the hot tub well before a large gathering of outsiders, and the clean it again after the party is over.

Use the Cover – A hot tub cover is a common purchase when bringing home a new spa, but sometimes people forget to put it on, or don’t want to be bothered when they use their portable spas every day. Hot tub covers are important though. They help keep the water clear by keeping out debris when the spa is not in use, and they cut down on sunlight so algae doesn’t have a chance to invade. Hot tub covers are great for conserving electricity as well. They allow your hot tub to retain heat longer and take less time to heat up before the next session as well.

Keep the Hot Tub Warm – If you are just using the hot tub on the weekends, you probably won’t want to keep it warm during the week, although that isn’t getting as much of the benefits from your hot tub as you could. Soaking nightly in the hot tub, at the very least, will help you sleep better and relax from the day’s stress for a healthier overall sense of well-being.

Using a hot tub daily, or every other day, is great, and you will save a lot of money in energy costs if you keep the portable spa at a minimum warmth of about 80 degrees when not in use. That’s because it takes a lot more energy to heat up a cold pool of water than it does to keep water at a modest temperature and warm it up from there for use.

When you buy your hot tub, make sure it is a well-insulated model. That will allow the spa to maintain its heat and heat up quicker too. Covering your hot tub will also help conserve the heat and make it easier to prepare for use.

So Go Ahead, Take a Soak, You Deserve it!
