March is Sleep Awareness Month and a great time to examine personal sleep habits and find better ways to get the proper amounts of rest. Here are three ways to get more sleep.
Incorporate Stress Reliving Techniques – Having a way to reduce stress available at home is a great way to break the stress cycle. Hot tubs are a convenient and easy-to-use “stress buster” that help people sleep better. The temperature-controlled water makes it simple to get the perfect level of heat that lasts as long as needed for a good rest. The massage jets work out tension and anxiety from the day, preparing the body for a better night’s sleep.
Portable spas can be placed in the backyard, on a porch or patio, or even in an appropriate room in the home such as a basement or bathroom. Hot tubs come in a variety of sizes but having one big enough to accommodate all members of the household makes it even more fun to use and great for everyone to relax in at night.
Regulate Bedtimes – For most people, setting a schedule for sleep on work or school days and nights isn’t a problem. There is a set time every day for getting up, and a reasonable time to try and get to sleep.
The problem can start on weekends or other days that are not part of that schedule, as well as on vacation days. It’s a common luxury to sleep in or stay up late for fun activities on those days, but that little bit of deviance can cause problems during the rest of the week.
Create a schedule that incorporates 8 hours of sleep for the days when work or school requires a particular time, and stick to those times all week long, including weekends, holidays and vacations.
Get Rid of Gadgets Before Bed and in the Bedroom – Electronics such as cellphones and computers in the bedroom have several issues that cause sleep problems. The first doesn’t really have anything to do with them being present during sleep, it is their use directly before bedtime.
According to the National Sleep Foundation, 90 percent of Americans use some kind of device in the hour before going to sleep. That technological activity stimulates the brain and makes it harder to get to sleep.
There is a reason not to have those gadgets in the room at all, even not being actively used during bedtimes. If on, they will emit a light glow that disrupts the hypothalamus in the brain, making it harder to fall asleep or get into a deep REM sleep.
To encourage people to check out the benefits of owning their own hot tub or swim spa, Costello’s Ace Hardware & Hearth and Ace Home Leisure will be providing free test soaks all month long. They do recommend, however, that people wanting to schedule their free 30-minute soak call the company ahead of time to reserve their spot.
