People have been enjoying hot tubs and spas for decades. A relaxing dip at the end of the day is exactly what tight muscles and achy joints need. Yet, with many different models, choosing the right spa can be tricky.
Here are three easy ways to find the perfect hot tub.
Know Why You Want a Hot Tub
With hydrotherapy, entertainment features and more, there’s a lot to consider with a spa. Take some time to think about what you want to get out of your hot tub and narrow your search to create an easy, stress free experience at the dealership.
Pick a Size That’s Realistic
Before shopping, decide who will be spending the most time in the spa—you and a spouse, or the entire extended family. Once you have a good idea how many people will be using the spa regularly, it’s much easier to pick one that meets your needs.
Exercise, Family Time or All of the Above
The modern hot tub can be equipped with a wide range of exciting features, from optimized hydro-massage chairs to LCD televisions. Decide your goal and look for hot tubs that can be outfitted with accessories that fit.

Hot Tub Hydrotherapy

Treadmill Walking
Turn your swim spa current down low and create an underwater treadmill for easy aquatic walking. Low impact, fun and safe for anyone with joint or mobility issues, walking for fitness in the swim spa is a smart, practical way to spend time.
Fun Body Surfing
Yes, your swim spa can be turned into an oasis for family fun with body surfing! Attach a body board to the front of the spa and turn up the current. Kids and adults love the fast action and fun of surfing from home. For something a little different, try using an inner tube, or kneeboard.

For arthritis patients, finding a natural approach to relief is often a challenge. Luckily, many people find the answer in the hot tub. With warm, massaging water and easy access, here’s how to banish arthritis and joint pain with a dip in the spa.
Immerse the Body in High Heat
Immersion, or completely sinking your body in water, is the defining characteristic of a hot tub. Unlike a heating pad that impacts one body part at a time, a hot tub relieves from head to toe. With sustained, elevated heat, pain doesn’t stand a chance.
Every Day Use for Long Lasting Relief
Slip into the tub first thing in the morning to alleviate stiffness. Or, relax before bed to soothe achy joints.
On-demand access means you can use your hot tub 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for complete, long lasting relief.
Improved Mobility and Range of Motion
Physical activity helps damaged joints hurt less. Yet movement isn’t always easy, and flexibility suffers.
Within a few months of using the hot tub, mobility and range of motion begin to improve dramatically for long lasting relief.

Here’s how a hot tub can help reduce symptoms of diabetes.
Targeted Massage Eases Tension and Stress – With hydrotherapy seats, it’s easy to slip into a hot tub for a few minutes of personalized massage. Twenty minutes is a powerful stress buster, easing tension from the neck, shoulders and back, reducing irritability and moodiness.
A Soothing Dip for Restorative Sleep – Soaking before bed elevates core body temperature, soothes muscles and relaxes the body from head to toe. With the body and mind at ease, drifting off into deep, peaceful sleep is effortless.
Aquatic Exercise for Weight Maintenance – Heat increases flexibility while buoyancy takes pressure off sore joints. Light stretching in the hot tub is a smart way to condition the heart and burn calories for long-term weight maintenance.

Sean Schaben, of Hot Spring Spas of Arnolds Park says, “Wellness is about all-around lifestyle improvements from physical to mental, and emotional habits that will create a balanced way of living.”
Here are three easy things to do to live healthier as a family.
Take time to de-stress as a family. – Stress causes physical problems and encourages illness, but it also affects thoughts, feelings and behavior. Get the entire family involved in stress reduction by having a hot tub in the yard. A great way to create a healthy environment in the home where everyone can relax and release the stress, portable spas make perfect play areas for the whole family.
Don’t skip meals, especially breakfast. – Regardless of how rushed mornings can be, skipping breakfast is not a healthy way to start the day. Instead, have a healthy breakfast of fruit, oatmeal or low fat cereal and set the body up right for the rigors of the day. Skipping meals, especially breakfast, tells the brain to conserve calories, which isn’t healthy.
Get to know the neighborhood. – These days, it is rare for families to spend time in the neighborhood. Make it a priority to get to know your neighbors by getting the family together for a weekly or daily walk. Taking a walk after dinner is a great way to encourage good digestion, prepare for a good night’s sleep, and spend quality time with family members.

“There’s only so much that medical care can do to combat obesity, heart disease, stress and cancer. Prevention is a much more important part of the solution than after-care,” says Melinda Dalacas, manager of Southwest Spas and Pools.
Here are 3 ways everyone, especially men, can get fit and live healthier.
Make healthy choices 80 percent of the time. – This helps avoid feelings of depravation that often cause people to give up on healthy choices. By allowing a few indulgences, but making sure that majority of food intake is healthy, men can lead healthier lives.
Be understanding and calm. – Some days are going to be better than others. Instead of getting depressed and giving up when a slip up occurs, get an extra exercise session in. A good attitude can go a long way toward resolving the problem. Getting upset and angry only increases internal stress that can lead to unhealthy pressure on the body and mind
Enjoy hot water therapy relaxation. – Hot tubs create a soothing and enjoyable environment for family and friends to gather around. A hot tub has medicinal qualities too that can help men, and their loved ones, live healthier lives. Hydrotherapy dilates blood vessels for improved blood flow, while buoyancy takes pressure off sore joints and muscles.
Fitchburg, WI 53575 – Bachmann Pools and Spas selling new and used hot tubs, swim spas, pools and saunas in the Fitchburg and Madison, WI area publishes “3 Tips for Better Communication.”
Fred Bachmann, President of Bachmann Pools and Spas says, “Good communication makes life easier, relationships stronger and business more efficient. Reflecting on how communications skills work can lead to a better life.”
Here are three tips for better communication.
Choose the Location Wisely – Choosing the right time and place for serious discussion is a big part of effective communication. For instance, it isn’t a great idea to try and talk to a teen about serious issues when they are getting ready to go to an event or talking to their friends. It would be unwise to try and communicate complex ideas or plans when the family is involved in media or playing with gadgets.
Even the “family table” which is often considered an important element in good communication is likely to produce superficial chatter about the day’s events and things. There are too many other distractions, even at mealtime. Rather, set aside a spot in the home that is calm and peaceful.
Creating an ideal communication and gathering area is easy. Install a Fitchburg hot tub in the backyard and surround it with peaceful lighting for an added element of luxury and serenity. Many portable spas come with mood lighting for instant atmosphere around the hot tub.
Hot tubs are enticing and fun, drawing the family together without outside distractions. Warm, comforting water and soothing massage jets allow people to relax, even during difficult discussions.
The Body Reflects Interest – Don’t forget to pay attention to what is being said when nothing is being said. Even when a person isn’t talking during a conversation, their body can relate many emotions, moods, feelings and attitudes.
Avoid crossing arms, slouching or fiddling with clothing. These movements convey feelings of disinterest or anger. Some familiar actions, such as stroking the chin can actually make others think a person is judging their words or thoughts. Faking a smile or nodding in compliance when it isn’t heart-felt may appease the speaker, but most of the time, people can tell when an action or look isn’t true.
Conflict Destroys Communication – When speaking, attempt to avoid negative words or angry comments, even when disagreeing with another viewpoint. Heating up a discussion to the point of anger will only cause others to shut down and stop listening while they argue their own side. No one really wins

The Spa and Sauna Company, a hot tub, swim spa and sauna dealer with 3 retail showrooms serving the greater Reno and Lake Tahoe area is proud team up with Sundance Spas and the charity “Wish for Our Heroes” to award Daniel Rogers, a local veteran a free hot tub to thank him for his service. The hot tub was delivered on May 4, 2018.
Daniel, a 30-year-old husband and father of two, is a 9-year member of the Nevada Army National Guard and has been on two year-long deployments overseas and a training mission in Haiti. During his mission in Haiti, his wife, Michelle Rogers, was pregnant with their daughter. During his first deployment, to Afghanistan, Michelle was pregnant with their son, who was born 5 days before Daniel returned home.
Wish for Our Heroes is “a national 501(c)(3), dedicated to providing resources to the “average” active-duty military member, in order to make their deployments a little easier, and to improve the quality of their family lives while home or during deployment,” according to their website.
“Sundance Spas also chose to partner up with Wish for Our Heroes because most of the donations goes to the cause. 100% of individual donations and 95% of corporate donations go directly toward granting wishes. They’re an amazing group and we couldn’t have asked for a better partner,” said James Choi, Channel Marketing Manager for Sundance Spas.
Daniel is the first veteran in Reno and Nevada to be awarded a spa through the Hot Tub for Heroes program, which is the partnership between Wish for Our Heroes and Sundance Spas. So far, together the two organizations have donated spas (or are in the middle of the donation process) with 17 veterans nationwide, according to Garrett Guinivan, Mid-Atlantic and Rocky Mountain Chapter Director for Wish for Our Heroes.
Daniel, who is a military police officer, wrote in his application essay about his second tour, which was in Kuwait, “This one was much more difficult on my wife and the children, as the kids were older and they definitely missed me terribly. I am home now spending some much-needed time with my family, but still am ever ready to answer the call when it comes,” commented Rogers.
On the spa delivery day, Daniel and Michelle both said that they had never won any contests or something of this scale before. They are truly thrilled to have a hot tub now and have been using their Sundance Hamilton several times a day, either before work or for some family time.
“The team at The Spa and Sauna Co., are very proud to be able to fulfill this Hot Tub for Heroes donation, granted in conjunction with the Wish for Our Heroes foundation and Sundance Spas,” said Spa and Sauna Co. Owner Scott Clark. “We are also incredibly grateful to Daniel for his Service to our country and the sacrifices he and his family have made during his deployments. We hope that Daniel and his family are able to enjoy years of relaxation, stress relief, and family bonding time from their new Sundance Hamilton.”

Ace Hardware & Hearth and Ace Home & Leisure, a Caldera and Bullfrog hot tub dealer selling new and used hot tubs and swim spas, serving the Severna Park, Maryland area publishes “3 Ways to Improve Social Well-Being.”
Doug Cashmere of Ace Hardware & Hearth said, “People who are surrounded by friends and family have a better chance of being healthy, both physically and mentally. Poor social wellbeing leads to higher stress levels, greater risk of heart disease and even increased cholesterol levels.”
Here are three ways to improve social well-being and health.
Add a Spa to the Backyard or Patio – A great way to bring family members together at the end of the day is to create a luxurious and exciting gathering spot in the yard or on the patio.
The pool-like aspect is the first thing that grabs people’s attention when they see portable spas. Once they actually get in, however, a lot of other benefits take over, and just the pleasing atmosphere is enough to keep them in the spa.
Along with the obvious health benefits of hydrotherapy, spas give people a stress-free, relaxing place to talk and enjoy each other’s company.
When troubles do arise in a relationship, portable spas are a great way to talk about difficult matters in a cool, collected way.
When a relationship is beginning, a hot tub is a romantic way to spend an evening, and families can enjoy time together with optional stereo or television systems that turn the spa into an entertainment oasis.
Find Local Social Events – Explore events around town or in a neighborhood such as sporting events, holiday celebrations, or tournaments to find groups of people that will be ready to join in with others to have fun. When finding new opportunities for social interaction, keep expectations at a reasonable level. Be aware that not all people in these situations will be open to new friendships or relationships, and accept that it is their right to refuse to connect. Getting involved in new activities to meet others will increase the chance of building friendships that will last and have a positive impact on health.
Volunteer and Help Others – For more ways to meet new people, volunteer at hospitals, nursing homes or shelters. People in troubling situations appreciate the connection with others, and it leaves the person providing the help feeling better and happier as well.

With cardiovascular and muscle toning built into every stroke, swimming laps is a smart way to improve overall health. But did you know that you can use water to increase joint fitness?
Here are three easy ways to promote joint health by using a swim spa.
Loosen Stiff Joints with Underwater Cardio
It’s easy to add an underwater treadmill for anytime cardiovascular fitness. With the buoyancy of water for support, a few minutes on the treadmill—walking or running—is an excellent way to engage in cardio while supporting and cushioning the joints.
Improve Flexibility with Aquatic Stretching
Stretching on a daily basis is the key to sustaining joint elasticity—and it’s easier than ever in water. Daily stretching in water can alleviate joint fitness by gradually increasing range of motion and joint flexibility. And the swim spa can tone and shape muscles too!
Hydromassage Soothes Painful Joints
Quality swim spas provide a safe, supportive environment to enjoy aquatic exercise, and a heated section to relax tired, painful joints with hydromassage. Targeted streams of water penetrate deep into muscles and joints for immediate relief on contact.
To encourage local residents to check out the benefits of using a swim spa to help improve their overall health and well-being, Sweetwater Hot Tubz is providing free swim spa test soaks at all their showrooms. We do recommend, however, that people wanting to schedule their free 30-minute swim call us ahead of time to reserve their spot.
While hot tub enthusiasts often focus on the health and wellness benefits of soaking, there’s another, unexpected benefit—strengthened family relationships. A dip in warm, massaging water is an exciting way to spend quality time with loved ones.
Here are three ways to use the hot tub to reconnect with family.
Promote Conversation In a Relaxed Environment
Teens often refuse to open up. A hot tub is the perfect space to promote conversation in a relaxed, non-threatening environment. Heat and massage instill calm—an invitation to share stories, laughter and meaningful conversation with family members.
Put Screen Time On Hold
In today’s “always on” world, we rely on smart phones, computers and television to entertain us, limiting the amount of time we spend face to face. A hot tub is a great way to disconnect from the machines, even temporarily, and invest in time together that isn’t defined by gadgets.
Plan a Weekly Dip In the Spa
Plan a dip in the hot tub mid week, or welcome the weekend as a great way to catch up with loved ones. With entertainment options, some of the best hot tubs offer surround sound and LCD waterproof televisions for an extra special treat.
To encourage local residents to check out the benefits of using a hot tub to help improve their overall health and well-being, Sweetwater Hot Tubz is providing free test soaks. “There isn’t one single path that leads to the ultimate in healthy living. Rather, there are countless ways people can develop better living habits for themselves and their families,” says Melinda Dalacas, manager of Southwest Spas and Pools.
Here are a few things people can do to get healthier as a family in a well-rounded manner.
Create a healthy habitat with a hot hub in the backyard. – Hot water therapy has been around for centuries as people sought out natural sources of pain relief, relaxation and stress relief. Portable spas are easy to set up and are often ready to use in hours upon getting them installed. The powerful jets deliver instant massage relief to sore muscles. They’re fun to use, and everyone in the family will want to spend time together.
Make a habit of trying new foods once a week. – Let everyone around the table know that they only have to take one bite. Even little changes to a diet can have overall benefits over time.
Foster emotional health. – Too often, people are so busy they forget the simple things that mean a lot. For example, saying “I love you” to people in the family is important. Other simple ways to build emotional health are to hug loved ones often, or hold hands while taking a walk or shopping.
If you haven’t explored the amazing health benefits of a dip in the spa, maybe you should. People are often surprised to learn that the family hot tub is much more than a relaxing place to get away.
Here’s what a quick dip in the hot tub can do for you.
Enhance Your Sleep
Restful sleep can be tough to find. Luckily, a dip in the spa before bed is an easy, all natural way to remedy poor sleep. Hot water relaxes and soothes the muscles, while the environment calms and soothes, paving the way for peaceful rest.
Lessen Chronic Pain
Massaging spa jets target pain deep under the muscles and joints, for instant, long lasting relief. A safe alternative to drugs, a hot tub is a smart way to get rid of discomfort from the privacy of home. And, with year round access, relief is always available.
Decrease Built Up Stress
Stress management is an important part of health and wellness, but something we don’t always have time to pursue. As part of an everyday routine, a dip in the hot tub is a healthy lifestyle choice and the perfect way to decrease built up stress that leaves you tense and edgy.
So Go Ahead, Take a Soak, You Deserve it!
It’s, fast, fun and relaxing. Not only that, it’s good for the body, soothes the mind and can improve your overall health and well-being.
