Oregon Hot Tub, a 6-store hot tub, swim spa and sauna dealer serving Gresham, Portland, Beaverton, Bend, Wilsonville, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington is proud to share tips for controlling diabetes.
Sue Rogers, CEO of Oregon Hot Tub said, “November is National Diabetes Month, a time when people should learn more about this serious disease and what they can do to reduce risk and reverse the effects of the disease if they already have it.”
Set Up the Home for Relaxation – Stress can be a contributing factor to diabetes symptoms. A great way to reduce stress is to add a hot tub to the yard to create a relaxing atmosphere. Warm water and soothing massage jets relieve stress easily. And, portable spas are simple to set up and come in a wide variety of sizes and shapes.
Get Moving – Getting plenty of exercise is a key element in diabetes prevention and also management of the disease. Exercise is effective for diabetes prevention as it helps with weight maintenance as well as reducing glucose in the blood stream, which decreases the need for insulin.
Eat Right – Exercise can go a long way, but in the case of Type II diabetes, good eating habits go hand-in-hand with exercise to fight the effects and prevent it from getting a foothold. Cut down on foods with added sugars, and foods that convert quickly to sugar such as simple carbohydrates like breads, pastas and even starchy vegetables. Reduce the amounts of fruit juices as they often have a high concentration of sugar.

Are you looking to fall asleep without having to rely on sleep aids or medication? An all-natural, deep sleep that lets your body rest and recharge is the key to looking and feeling your best. Here’s how a hot tub can help you fall asleep faster.
Raise, Then Drop Body Temperature – If you’re having trouble getting to sleep, one of the easiest ways to jumpstart the process is to regulate your own body temperature. Use a hot tub thirty minutes before bed and the rapid increase, followed by a sharp decrease in core body temperature lets you drift off easier.
De-stress with Personalized Massage – A few minutes of targeted massage in the hot tub can zap away stress, decreasing stiffness and increasing flexibility. Heat penetrates deep into the muscles and joints, relaxing from within for allover relief. Personalized massage leaves you relaxed and ready to rest.
Warm Water as a Natural Sleep Aid
There’s a reason why people use water therapy to relieve aches and pains—it works. The same is true for encouraging sleep, as warm water is naturally soothing. Heat relaxes muscles, but also slows a busy mind, allowing you to unwind mentally in preparation for a deep, peaceful sleep.

Aside from medication and over the counter remedies, how do we control pain? Exercise and physical activity can help, but nothing works as fast, or is as safe, as a dip in the spa. Here’s how to end pain—of all kinds—with a relaxing soak in the hot tub.
End Chronic Back Pain
Soaking in hot water with massaging jets can relieve back pain. High heat targets painful back muscles, which reduces pain. Blood pressure intensifies too, encouraging the release of endorphins to promote relaxation even after getting out of the tub.
Ease Age Related Aches and Pains
Whether it’s arthritis or another chronic discomfort, a hot tub can help. Unlike a bathtub, the hot tub stays hot for as long as you’re in it. Warm, massaging water breaks down knots and relaxes muscles and joints from the inside out, for long lasting and relaxing relief.
Soothe Tight, Stiff Muscles
Using a hot tub in the morning before starting a daily routine can zap morning stiffness from the hip, legs, back and more, improving flexibility and suppleness. With regular use, stiffness may even decrease permanently for improved range of motion.

Allstate Home Leisure, a Jacuzzi Spas and Sundance hot tub dealer serving Sterling Heights, Michigan is pleased to Support National Diabetes Month.
“The best way to fight diabetes is to prevent it, but if it’s too late to stop it, addressing blood sugar highs from Type 2 diabetes can help you live healthier,” said Roy Farmer, president of Allstate Home Leisure.
Here are three tips for addressing blood sugar highs from Type 2 diabetes*
Come Down from a Morning High – The human body increases glucose production during the night in order to compensate for not eating. Eating a small carb-based snack before bed will help keep blood sugar from spiking. A healthy snack should consist of “friendly-carbs” like low-fat yogurt, fruit, or sugar-free popsicles.
Wash it Out – When sugar levels rise during the day, drink water. Water is nature’s purest and most valuable resource for healthy living. It flushes out toxins from the blood and helps the kidneys function more efficiently. When sugar is high, drinking three large glasses of water can help reduce the levels of sugar in the blood.
Soak Away Sugar – Hot tub hydrotherapy is used to help many illnesses and injuries, and is breaking ground in diabetes therapy as well. Soaking every day for a half hour can lower blood sugar and A1 counts in patients with Type 2 diabetes. It can also help with weight loss and improved sleep.

Relieve Aches and Pains Naturally
Heated, massaging water works wonders on simple, every day aches and pains. Start the day with a rejuvenating soak, or slip into the tub after dinner for an easy transition from a hectic day to a peaceful evening
Jumpstart a Fitness Program
Sticking to a fitness plan can be challenging. Especially when time prevents you from getting to the gym as often as you’d like. Soaking in a hot tub can give you a fitness boost. It has to do with heat and how your body works to maintain a cool temperature. Elevated heat also revs up the metabolism, working the cardiovascular system too.
Space to Connect with Loved Ones
A hot tub is perfect—relaxing, soothing and enjoyable—the best way to spend time with loved ones. Strengthen relationships with a busy teen or hardworking spouse and do it while enjoying personal massage from

Mainely Tubs, a premier hot tub, swim spa, and sauna dealer in the greater Portland, Maine area publishes tips to deal with diabetes*
“Diabetes is a silent killer. Without testing, people often have no idea they are struggling internally until one of many serious side effects rears up,” said Jim Van Fleet, president of Mainely Tubs.
Relieve Stress – Stress increases the negative effects of diabetes. Tension from bills, heavy traffic, job or school can create tension pain that can be relieved by soaking in a soothing hot tub. The heat and massage combined in a portable spa help to increase blood flow, strengthen metabolism and reduce blood sugar levels too.
Take the Stairs – Exercise is a well-known health booster, and it an excellent way to reduce blood sugar levels. To be healthy, exercise doesn’t have to be difficult. Think of small activities that will accumulate to create extra movement like taking the stairs, walking from the car to a building, or just taking a leisurely stroll after work or school.
Talk to a Doctor – Many people avoid seeing a doctor until they notice symptoms and are worried about them. Diabetes often has no symptoms until it is reached advanced stages. Before major side-effects begin to appear, get a regular check-up and blood sugar screening.

Elevated stress and poor sleep take a toll on how you feel, making it tough to get through the day. Luckily, a hot tub at home can help. With access to hydrotherapy, it’s easy to rejuvenate and refresh on demand. Here’s how to use a hot tub to boost energy, reduce pain and feel your best.
Personal Massage
A defining characteristic of the modern hot tub is massage. Powerful jets positioned throughout the tub provide the most sensational customized massage. From head to toe, a quick massage works out kinks, eases stress and loosens tight muscles and joints in the neck, shoulders and low back for instant relief.
High Heat Zaps Away Muscle Pain
Heat is one of the best remedies for muscular aches and pains. But, it can be difficult to reach every part of the body at once. With a hot tub at home, it’s easier than ever to slip into the water for a full body treatment. Plus, heat is sustained, meaning it stays hot the entire time you relax in the tub.
End Insomnia with a Dip before Bed
Take a dip in the hot tub 30 minutes before retiring at night and enjoy a deep, peaceful sleep. Hot water and massage is relaxing, but it’s the rapid drop in temperature when getting out of the tub that helps you rest. With regular use, insomnia is a thing of the past.

Bachmann Pools and Spas selling new and used hot tubs, swim spas, pools and saunas in the greater Fitchburg area Shares Tips for National Diabetes Month
“Once someone is diagnosed with Type II diabetes, there are things that they can do to lower blood sugar levels and help stave off the serious complications of the illness, President of Bachmann Pools and Spas.
Here are three tips for lowering blood sugar levels for Type II diabetes*.
Measure Food – It can be difficult to constantly dole out portions in measured amounts, but accuracy is a critical component to improving diet control. Most people have lost sight of what an actual portion is, and end up eating far more with each serving than the ideal amount. While reading nutrition labels is a good way to identify which foods contain elevated sugar or carbohydrates, even healthy foods can be dangerous if they aren’t consumed in the proper amount.
Go Green – Replace sugary drinks and coffee whenever possible with a generous amount of green tea every day. While there are few studies that confirm how green tea lowers blood sugar levels, it does not raise levels the way soda and caffeine does. As an added bonus, green tea contains polyphenols that help fight off disease.
Soak Away Stress and Sugar – Adding a hot tub to the yard is the easiest way to enjoy the benefits of a soak at home without the cost of club memberships, or the hassle of working spa time into the schedule. It also allows all members of the family to enjoy warm, temperature controlled water at any time of the day or night.

Purchasing a hot tub is an exciting experience. But buying the right hot tub, without buying too much, too little or choosing the wrong spa takes some skills.
Here are three tips for first time hot tub buyers that can help make your buying experience easy and stress free.
Do Your Research On Brands and Dealers
Don’t make the mistake of not checking up on brands and dealers. Reputable dealers have a record of satisfied customers, business longevity and awards. Do some preliminary research online and know what you’re looking for and why.
Look for Energy Efficient Models
It’s possible to enjoy a hot tub with bells and whistles, and have it be energy efficient too!
With low energy components, and features, even families on a budget can enjoy the hot tub lifestyle.
Always Schedule a Wet Test
Many first time buyers aren’t aware that there is something called a hot tub “wet test”. Think of it as a test drive, or your chance to try out any models you are interested in to get a feel for the jets, controls and comfort.

You’ve made the decision to buy a hot tub, great! But if you haven’t taken a few minutes to think about where it will go, now is the time. Planning the details before delivery is the key to getting it right.
Here are three ways to choose the perfect location for your hot tub at home.
Consider How You Will Be Using the Tub
If you plan to entertain often or think you’ll use the spa daily to ease chronic pain, it makes sense to keep it close to the house, for easy access. However, if you’re looking to create a private oasis, a secluded spot in the yard may be better.
Don’t Forget About Privacy
It’s nice to take a relaxing soak from the privacy and comfort of home. But, when the trees lose their leaves, that private oasis is suddenly wide open. Be sure to think about how privacy will change with the seasons to maximize your enjoyment.
Consider the Weather
If you plan to use your spa when the weather is cold or icy, don’t forget to place it close to the door. A lavish hot tub on the other side of a large backyard can be treacherous mid winter. Be sure to choose a location that can be kept clear and safe despite the weather.
So Go Ahead, Take a Soak, You Deserve it!
It’s, fast, fun and relaxing. Not only that, it’s good for the body, soothes the mind and can improve your overall health and well-being.

One of the most exciting investments for improved health is a swimming pool. Yet not everyone has the space or budget to accommodate a pool. Luckily, a lap pool is a fantastic alternative. Here are three smart reasons to buy a swim spa.
Longer Swimming Season
With a swim spa at home, it’s easy to extend the swimming season into the entire year. Swim spas are much smaller than the typical pool, meaning you can put it in virtually any space—the sunroom, enclosed patio or anywhere it would be fun to swim indoors.
Low Operating and Maintenance Costs
With less water to heat and care for, the average swim spa costs far less to own and operate. For many homeowners, the investment pays for itself in practically no time with aquatic fitness and fun from home.
Ease, Convenience and Fun
With a swim spa at home, a low impact workout is just inches from the kitchen. With an adjustable current for easy lap swimming, underwater treadmills and resistance bands for strength building, the swim spa is a healthy, low impact workout at your doorstep.
So Go Ahead, Take a Swim, You Deserve it!
It’s, fast, fun and relaxing. Not only that, it’s good for the body, soothes the mind and can improve your overall health and well-being.

“It is estimated that 1 in every 11 Americans is diabetic. And millions more are at risk of the disease, or are already pre-diabetic,” said Randall Long of Hot Spring Spas of Minneapolis.
Here are 3 blood sugar control tips to help people support loved ones who are diabetic, or control their own blood sugar levels better*
Accept the Learning Curve – People need to recognize that learning how to control the disease and deal with the physical and emotional issues does not happen automatically or overnight. Joining forums and support groups will help those who are new to the disease get a handle on the changes in their lives.
Set Realistic Goals – It is important to control blood sugar as much as possible, but expecting too much can be more of a setback. Work with a doctor, a dietician, even a mental health care provider to understand the disease and learn what is possible and how long to expect changes to take.
Create a Luxurious Place to Enjoy Life – Add a hot tub to the yard for instant luxury and a place that will pamper everyone in the family without the cost of expensive memberships or vacation travel to a spa. Along with a relaxing atmosphere, a hot tub helps relieve the daily stress of life as well as dealing with diabetes.

With hot water, massage and buoyancy, hot tub hydrotherapy is the key to looking and feeling your best. If you’re unfamiliar with the benefits, but interested in learning more about a spa at home, here’s how 30 days is all you’ll need for renewal in the hot tub.
Relax and Rejuvenate – Stress is part of every day life for most people, but it doesn’t have to take a toll on your health. A quick soak in the hot tub a few days a week can banish stress and tension, paving the way for a relaxed, tension-free you.
Ease Aches and Pains – Sustained heat from the hot tub targets deep into muscle tissue, for instant, long lasting relief. The perfect solution for chronic conditions, like arthritis, a dip in the morning can loosen stiff joints, ease muscular aches and increase flexibility for less pain and more mobility.
Boost Energy, Improve Sleep – A well rested you is confident and successful. But when you can’t get the sleep you need to recharge, your body and mind feel drained. Isn’t it great to have friends with a hot tub at their house? That’s why we think it’s our duty to share some etiquette tips about soaking in a hot tub as a guest.
Bathing Suit Consideration
One of the easiest ways to mess up hot tub water chemistry is to hop in a tub with freshly laundered suits. The residual detergent will get into the water, causing foaming and in some cases cloudy water. Many detergents also contain phosphates, which can cause water to turn green the next day. If you plan to wear suits, run them through a rinse cycle in the washer and let them air dry.
Arrive fragrance/lotion free
Excessive lotions and other grooming products, like make-up and hair gel, also cause negative side effects to hot tub water. Try to remember to shower before heading over to your friend’s place, and resist the urge to use a lot of extra grooming products that can end up creating issues for your friend’s tub later. After soaking, feel free to moisturize away.
Bring a hot tub related gift
There are a lot of nice simple things that don’t cost much as a thank you gift for hot tub use: Plastic champagne flutes with Martinelli’s Sparkling Cider, a pair of plush towels, and hot tub aromatherapy are all relatively inexpensive, and a nice surprise when you arrive.
Bring your own towels
It’s nice to have your own towels with you, so you can use them for your after soak drying off and take them home when you leave. Have a great time! Nothing is more enjoyable than taking a hot tub with friends and chatting away…it’s really great fun!

The winter weather has hit and for some of us – earlier than we expected. Make sure your hot tub is in top condition to “weather” the weather. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
Make Sure Your Cover is at Peak Performance Level
Check for signs of wear and tear-make sure the seal is still tight and intact, so heat doesn’t escape. If you see signs of sagging, fading or cracking, it may be time for a replacement.
Protect Your Cover
Applying a protectant spray like 303 Protectant to the outside of the cover can help preserve it and keep it from becoming cracked in the first place. Applying 303 Protectant to the underside of your cover can help prevent mildew.
Remove Snow from the Spa Cover Before Large Amounts Accumulate
Condensation might occur around the cover locks which could create ice build-up. To remove, splash with warm water; don’t try to pry the ice off. Wind straps are also good to keep the cover tightly secured during high wind storms.
If You’re Going Away for a Few Days Remember These Tips
– Adjust the pH according to your Owner’s Manual.
– Sanitize the water with a Chlorine-Free Oxidizer according to instructions.
– Lock down the cover to prevent access.
– Upon your return, balance the pH and sanitize the water prior to using.
